Bluethumb Artist Popup – Melbourne
Help Bluethumb Artists Host A Popup Exhibition
Local Melbourne artists Sarah Tracton, Will Dickerson and Maria Peña are set to deliver the first Melbourne popup exhibition in partnership with Bluethumb, Australia's largest online art gallery.
This Pozible campaign is a crucial part of Bluethumb's mission to empower Australian artists to succeed by connecting artists with collectors.
This popup exhibition is about engaging directly with communities, while at the same time offering Bluethumb artists the opportunity to plan, curate and stage a successful popup exhibition of their own.
The aim is to reach co-funding target of $2,000 of which Bluethumb has already pledged the first $1,000.
About the Artists:
Will Dickerson
Will Dickerson is a self-taught oil painter deeply inspired by colour and movement on the canvas. His painting surfaces will make your eyes fizz from the experience.
Influenced by Sol LeWitt and Bridget Riley, Will’s art pays homage to pointillism and divisionism. Originally from England, Will is inspired by the intensity of the colours and the vibrant energy of Melbourne which are transferred onto the canvas.
Sarah Tracton
Sarah Tracton is an award-winning multi-disciplinary 2D and 3D artist, and a recent BFA graduate at the National Art School, East Sydney.
Sarah's freehand drawings in pen are improvised with no preconceived planning, resembling 3D anatomical structures within the bionically enhanced human body. She embraces the challenge of creating a sense of enhanced dimensional form purely with line. Being profoundly deaf, drawing is a meditative and hypnotic medium in which she experiences creative immersion in total silence.
Maria Peña
María Peña is a Colombian artist currently based in Melbourne. She holds a BFA from the Academia Superior de Artes de Bogotá and a Doctorate of Fine Arts by research at RMIT University, School of Art in Melbourne.
Maria's art practice involves oil paintings on canvas, sculptural fabric pieces, mural painting and installation projects. It explores themes of memory and identity, past and present and absence and presence, with a strong sense of longing and myth. Her art is also influenced by concepts of sub-realism and references elements of visual and cultural theory.
How The Funds Will Be Used
The funds will go towards the cost of hiring the venue (Testing Grounds in Southbank), as well as incidental expenses such as signage and transportation of artwork.
The Challenges
As anyone who has ever staged an exhibition knows, every show is different and comes with its own challenges! Given that this project is the first of its kind, we wouldn't be surprised if there were a few hiccups. That said, the journey is already off to a great start, and together with the team at Bluethumb, Will, Sarah and Maria feel confident for the exhibition ahead of them!
