Bluethumb Artist Popup - Canberra
Help Bluethumb Artists Host A Popup Exhibition
Exhibiting together for the first time, ten established women artists are poised to deliver a popup exhibition in Canberra with the support and partnership of Bluethumb, Australia's largest online art gallery.
The show is part of a wider series of popup art exhibitions around Australia, which offers Bluethumb artists the opportunity to plan, curate and stage a successful exhibition.
The artists involved include: Jennifer Baird, Amy Basnett, Colleen Connors, Valentyna Crane, Margy Duke, Kylie Fogarty, Margaret Hadfield, Fiona Hill, Carole Osmotherly and Susan Trudiger,
A diverse range of mediums and genres will be exhibited at the newly established art space, Stirato Gallery, situated in Fyshwick, ACT, from Wed. 25 - Sat. 28 July.
This Pozible campaign is a crucial part of Bluethumb's mission to empower Australian artists to succeed by connecting artists with collectors.
The aim is to reach co-funding target of $2,000 of which Bluethumb has already pledged the first $1,000.
About the Artists:
Jennifer Baird - Jennifer is an award winning multi media artist. Lino prints, painting and screen printing, commissions welcome.
Amy Basnett - Amy has a passion for incorporating interior design concepts into her abstracts, which are inspired by the intricate networks of Australian waterways. With wine in hand and toddlers in bed, she works intuitively to create art that conveys a positive reflection in the viewer.
Colleen Connors - Colleen's paintings are bright and bold, in vibrant colour. Her focus is places of solitude in the landscape or still lifes with items of personal meaning and flowers for their ability to lift the spirit.
Valentyna Crane - Valentyna is an academically trained Contemporary Impressionist, dedicating her art to celebrating nature in all its glory. Light, shadows, air and water surround people and talk to them in her paintings.
Margy Duke - Margy is a Dhungutti women and contemporary Aboriginal artist who primarily works with acrylics though she is also known for her ink drawings. Her artworks are spiritual and meditational. They are inspired both by her Aboriginal heritage and by the world around her, seen and unseen.
Kylie Fogarty - Kylie enjoys working primarily in ink and oils to employ contemplative, subtle but bold expressive marks to explore her response to the natural world. An award-winning artist, her works have been exhibited both nationally and internationally through numerous exhibitions.
Margaret Hadfield - Margaret won the 2006 Gallipoli Art Prize and is a finalist many times of this and many major art prizes in Australia. Has exhibited extensively and has a versatility in all mediums and subjects. Working as an artist and teacher in the Canberra-Queanbeyan region for 27 years.
Fiona Hill - Fiona creates elegant, contemporary art built up of many layers of paint. Her work is characterized by a combination of bright colours, hidden textures, drips and soft, feminine shapes.
Carole Osmotherly - Carol specialises in painting on silk using wax resist. She enjoys the unpredictability of working in this challenging medium and the fact that she always being surprised by the effects that can be achieved.
Susan Trudinger - Susan is a landscape and still life painter working in acrylic paint and mixed media. Her inspiration comes from nature and her aim is to create visually pleasing pieces for the viewer.
How The Funds Will Be Used
The funds will go towards the cost of hiring the venue, as well as incidental expenses such as signage and transportation of artwork.
The Challenges
As anyone who has ever staged an exhibition knows, every show is different and comes with its own challenges! Given that this project is the first of its kind, we wouldn't be surprised if there were a few hiccups. That said, the journey is already off to a great start, and together with the team at Bluethumb, our Canberra artist group feel confident for the exhibition ahead of them!

" "Waiting To Jump", “Looking On” and “Contemplation” are the first three paintings in the Bird Series which I exhibited at my first solo exhibition at the Strathnairn Arts Gallery in Canberra, 2011, Isolation or Solace? In this exhibition I explored the premise that what appears to be an act of isolation or the associated, presumed emotions of the moment, may not actually be the reality of the situation. What appears to be isolation to one often can be a moment of solace for another."
